Madonna & Child
This is a study of Raphaello (Raphael) Sanzio's
"La Madonna del Granduca" that I painted in 1996-97.

While traveling to Florence, Italy in 1996
I took time to study Raphael's original
La Madonna del Granduca "up close and personal" at the Pitti Palace.  The guards were wonderful, allowing me to sit and study this picture for over an hour!

Using the Frank Covino method that I have been studying, the first layer that is put down using charcoal and ink.
Study #1: Madonna & Child
Here I am, attending Frank's week long oil painting workshop.  The second layer, the verdaccio, has already been completed, and now I am adding color over it.

The completed picture hangs proudly
